YOUR TYRE TOOL FOR ON ROAD, ONBOARD TYRE PROPERTIES IDENTIFICATION FOR ANY VEHICLE CLASS
THE TFT (TYRE FITTING TOOL)
WHAT IT IS AND WHAT IT DOES FOR YOU
The TFT tyre tool supports advanced workflows for generating .tir files and enables the identification of Pacejka parameters.
It is specifically developed to compute the engaged friction characteristics between the tyre and the road surface, along with all relevant kinematic quantities, and provides robust data fitting capabilities using the Pacejka Magic Formula. This ensures accurate tyre modeling and characterization for heavy vehicles, agricultural equipment, motorcycles, and passenger cars in vehicle dynamics simulations.
The TFT processes experimental data acquired either from on-board vehicle measurements (indirect estimation method) or from indoor testing (direct estimation method). Experimental tests can be conducted on conventional surfaces such as asphalt, as well as on agricultural soils or off-road terrains. The system then generates a .tir file that can be seamlessly integrated into advanced vehicle simulation software.

IDENTIFICATION

The TFT identification process enables the analysis of acquired data (from either indoor or outdoor testing) to estimate experimental tyre’s operational points (e.g. engaged friction VS slip) using dedicated estimation algorithms.
The output of the identification procedure are the operational points of:
- longitudinal force VS longitudinal slip
- lateral force VS lateral slip angle
- self aligning torque VS lateral slip angle
- rolling radius VS Vertical loads
- longitudinal and lateral relaxation length
FITTING

The TFT fitting process allows the previously identified estimated tyre operational points to be matched with the best Pacejka Magic Formula for the available dataset. Further refinement can be achieved by manually adjusting the parameter.
The output of this operation is the .tir file with all the information of the fitted curve.
Main capabilities of the TFT-fitting tool:
- visualization of both experimental and fitting data in the same GUI
- user-friendly procedure to achieve optimal fitting
- uploading of multiple experimental datasets acquired under different tyre status (e.g., aging, wear, pressure)
- generation of different .tir files to account for aging and wear
WHY YOU NEED IT
The TFT (Tyre Fitting Tool) provides a cost-effective and innovative solution for tyre characterization to be later used inside advanced vehicle simulation software. A single tool can be used for both indoor on artificial surfaces and outdoor tests on real road under various testing conditions.

COMPATIBLE WITH BOTH INDOOR AND OUTDOOR PROCEDURES:
TFT can manage and process data from both advanced testing facilities with indoor testing equipment and outdoor tests, leveraging the vehicle’s on-board sensors.

TO TRACK THE TYRE EVOLUTION:
TFT allows to generate .tir files that account for variations in wear, age, and pressure, which are crucial for accurately assessing vehicle dynamics and the performance of ADAS and control systems.

COST EFFECTIVE TOOL:
One tool, endless possibilities: cost-effective tyre characterization for all whether and surface conditions, indoors and outdoors, for tyres of all sizes.

DATA ACQUISITION
Outdoor and Indoor Test Methodologies
DATA ACQUISITION – OUTDOOR TYRE CARACTHERIZATION

This data acquisition method optimizes the use of onboard vehicle sensors and is based on outdoor testing across various road surfaces.
Main advantages:
Enables tyre characterization on real rolling surfaces, including public roads and proving grounds, and supports the generation of .tir files for heavy vehicle tyre characterization, agricultural tyre characterization, and motorcycle tyre characterization. This process also takes into account extreme weather conditions and variable terrain.
Allows the analysis of large tyres for heavy vehicles and off-highway applications, including soft soil tyre characterization and soft soil on-field tyre characterization on plastic soils with different levels of compactness, such as mud, snow, and loose surfaces.
Provides a cost-effective solution for tyre characterization and .tir file generation across different vehicle categories, supporting precise modelling for passenger car, heavy vehicles, agricultural machinery, motorcycles, and off-road vehicle.
DATA ACQUISITION - INDOOR

This is the standard method for obtaining .tir files and it requires specialized laboratory equipment.
Main advantages:
Operation Condition Decoupling (i.e., the ability to set a vertical force and span across a slip range)
Repeatability (unaffected by weather conditions)
Vehicle Under Test (VUT) independent
